I worked on Town of Zoz as a Principal Environment Artist. The majority of work I did was set dressing, lighting, and optimizations.
They brought me on to put out fires and quickly polish a bunch of maps in the game. This work included finalizing blank maps from design, or rehauling a blockout art pass from a previous artist.
On top of the environment art, I did a major audit of the entire games environments. This included fixing and organizing all maps to be much cleaner (volumes and art in wrong layers, fixed incorrect lighting, collision bugs, and more).
I also had a focus on optimization to reduce VRAM and memory size for the Nintendo Switch port (texture sizes, collision, light complexity, draw calls, shadows, etc). The Switch port was later cut :(
Shout out to Max Gon (Beezul) the Creative Director on Town of Zoz. Max was awesome to work with and has an amazing eye for art and what makes a game fun. Mad respect for the amount of work he took upon himself moving mountains to make this game the best it could be.
